Abercrumbie to attend NCAA Leadership Institute

Mississippi State Assistant Athletic Director for Life Skills and Community Engagement JP Abercrumbie has been selected to participate in the 2017 NCAA Leadership Institute.

Nineteen minority female administrators from around the country will join Abercrumbie for the gathering July 7-15 in Tampa, Florida. The program offers an opportunity to gain insight into every facet of an athletics department, preparing them to become well-rounded leaders who are equipped with the tools an effective athletics administrator needs.

Abercrumbie is entering her third year with the Bulldogs, and is responsible for the personal and leadership development programs, professional and postgraduate preparation, and community outreach and engagement opportunities supported by the Athletic Department's Pay It Forward initiative.

"This is a way to figure out how I can be a better influence for those at Mississippi State," Abercrumbie said. "I am one of 20 chosen to attend, and there are influencers and decision makers from different institutions and divisions from across the country attending. This is a great way to see how things are done elsewhere, learn something new, and also shine a light on the good things we are doing at Mississippi State. Hopefully I can bring back new ways to enhance not only our student-athlete experience, but also our staff experience as well."

A Chicagoland native, Abercrumbie is a Temple University honors graduate and also earned a Master of Arts in the cultural studies of sport in education from the University of California, Berkeley.

In 2016, MSU presented Abercrumbie with a volunteer excellence award and a Day One Program Outstanding Mentor award.
