Leadership program taps faculty dozen
The 2015-2016 Fred Tom Mitchell Faculty Leadership Program honors the memory of Mississippi State's 10th president (1945-53).
A dozen Mississippi State faculty members are new selections for the competitive 2015-2016 Fred Tom Mitchell Faculty Leadership Program.
Sponsored by the university’s offices of Research and Economic Development and of the Provost and Executive Vice President, the program works to develop the next generation of campus academic leaders, among other goals. It honors the memory of the land-grant institution’s 10th president (1945-53).
“Mississippi State has a long tradition of effective leadership on campus and in the communities we serve, and we believe this program contributes to that legacy,” said David Shaw, the university’s vice president for research and economic development.
“We are committed to helping faculty further develop the skills that are needed to lead Mississippi's flagship research university forward in our tri-fold mission of teaching, research and service,” he explained.
During the nine-month program set to begin in August, participants will be part of various presentations and roundtable discussions with top administrators. Session topics include leadership styles, organizational change, diversity, building winning research teams, and organizational evaluation and assessment.
This year’s participants are:
-- Janet R. Donaldson, associate professor, biological sciences.
-- Kimberly R. Hall, associate professor, Meridian Division of Education.
-- Dean Jousan, associate Extension professor, animal and dairy science.
-- Deborah Lee, professor, general library, and co-director, Maroon & Write Quality Enhancement Plan.
-- Shien Lu, associate professor, biochemistry, molecular biology, entomology and plant pathology.
-- Bonnie Carr O’Neill, associate professor, English.
-- Amanda Clay Powers, associate professor, general library.
-- Kathy Sherman-Morris, associate professor, geosciences.
-- Jack Smith, acting associate dean and associate professor, pathobiology and population medicine.
-- Lisa Wallace, associate professor, biological sciences.
-- Lakiesha N. Williams, associate professor, agricultural and biological engineering.
-- Joe D. Wilmoth, associate professor, School of Human Sciences.
