'Walk a Mile in Her Shoes' on Monday

More than 500 men will leave their comfort zones this week to consider issues from a woman's perspective.

Taking place Monday [April 7], Mississippi State's annual "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" experience will have the male participants put on high heels and take a walk around the Junction. Open to all, the event is part of an international campaign designed to raise awareness and help prevent rape, sexual assault and other forms of gender violence. It is sponsored by MSU's health education and wellness department.

Registration will begin at 3 p.m. with the walk program starting at 4 p.m. Participants also may be fitted for shoes beginning at 3 p.m.

Bill Kibler, MSU vice president for student affairs, will begin the opening presentation at 4 p.m. Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman will lead the walk, and musical entertainment will be provided by Drew Harrison and Co.

Leah Pylate, assistant director of health education and wellness and sexual assault, said, "We're asking men to literally walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes to show their support for ending violence against women."
