‘Godmother of Soul’ Patti LaBelle coming to MSU for Lyceum Series
Grammy Award winner Patti LaBelle is bringing her legendary rhythm and blues to Lee Hall’s Bettersworth Auditorium Thursday as the next guest in Mississippi State’s Lyceum Series. Known as the “Godmother of Soul” and ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the “Top 100 Singers of All Time,” LaBelle will perform at 7 p.m. Doors open approximately 30 minutes before the curtain rises for the show, which is part of the university’s long-running performing arts program.

Dr. Dave to delve into ‘Golden Age of Sports Analytics’ during campus visit
A popular speaker who connects the dots between business, sports and statistical analysis will visit Mississippi State in early December. During his visit, Dave “Dr. Dave” Schrader will deliver a public presentation titled “Entering the Golden Age of Sports Analytics.” He specializes in explaining how to use databases to create insights for business and sports. Schrader’s lecture is set for Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. in Colvard Student Union’s Fowlkes Auditorium.

New federal sponsor reporting requirements for harassment and sexual misconduct
Some of you may have seen news articles from various federal sponsors such as the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration concerning new or pending policies on university notification requirements regarding sexual harassment, other forms of harassment or sexual assault. These federal policies are specific to individuals involved in projects sponsored by those federal sponsors.

SEC Academic Leadership Development Program recognizes four faculty
Four Mississippi State administrators are among 55 named Southeastern Conference Academic Leadership Development Program Fellows. Now in its 11th year, ALDP was created to help prepare and advance academic leaders for roles within the SEC’s 14 member universities and beyond. In addition to individual campus development programs, the initiative involves two conference-wide workshops and a competitive fellowship program. MSU’s 2018-19 SEC ALDP Fellows are Angus L. Dawe, Kimberly R. Hall, Nicole E. Rader and Jack Smith.
Loehwing authors new book on homeless advocacy
A new book by an assistant professor in Mississippi State’s Department of Communication is being featured in a series focusing on the character and quality of public discourse in politics and culture. In her 232-page book, “Homeless Advocacy and the Rhetorical Construction of the Civic Home,” Melanie Loehwing reconsiders typical characterizations of homelessness, citizenship and democratic community through unconventional approaches to homeless advocacy and assistance. The book is part of Penn State University Press’s Rhetoric and Democratic Deliberation Series.
Week of events will honor America’s veterans
As part of national Veterans and Military Families Month, Mississippi State University will host several November events to honor America’s veterans. Among other events, MSU will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony at 2 p.m. on Monday in Colvard Student Union's Fowlkes Auditorium. “Mississippi State prides itself in the care and consideration given to our men and women who have bravely worn the uniform to defend our freedom,” said Brian Locke, director of MSU’s G.V. “Sonny" Montgomery Center for America’s Veterans.
