Null to present floral design program this week
An internationally recognized leader in floral arts and retail floriculture is presenting a floral design program this week at Mississippi State. The Wednesday [April 20] event led by MSU Professor Emeritus Ralph Null takes place 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the M-Club Building on the south side of Davis Wade Stadium. A contest sponsored by the Student Chapter of the American Institute of Floral Designers follows at 2 p.m.

Legal issues conference coming up next week
Mississippi State University is hosting its fifth annual legal issues conference April 27-29 on the Starkville campus. The conference will be valuable for all levels of university practitioners from faculty to academic administrators. Guest speakers this year include Rachel Gettler, lead attorney from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights.

Earth Week-related volunteer opportunities available
The Maroon Volunteer Center at Mississippi State details a number of volunteer opportunities for the campus community on its website and in its newsletter this week. Among them, Earth Week-related volunteer opportunities, including a water fundraiser to benefit Flint, Michigan, a trash collection activity, and a community beautification project. There are also details about a Holmes Cultural Diversity Center survey.

This Week in Mississippi State Sports, 04/18/16
Softball hosts Southern Miss at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, and then visits Gainesville for a weekend series against Florida with games on Friday at 5 p.m., Saturday at noon, and Sunday at 4 p.m. ...Men's and Women's Tennis see the start of the SEC Championships on Wednesday in Columbia and Baton Rouge, respectively... Baseball plays Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Biloxi at MGM Park, and then travels to Baton Rouge for a weekend series against LSU with games on Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 6 p.m., and Sunday at noon... Track & Field competes Friday and Saturday at the Virginia Invitational in Charlottesville and at the LSU Invitational on Saturday in Baton Rouge.

New E-Center grand opening Tuesday morning
The College of Business at Mississippi State will hold a grand opening for its new Center for Entrepreneurship and Outreach this week. Part of the college’s annual E-Week schedule celebrating entrepreneurship, the grand opening will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the McCool Hall atrium. “By offering a minor as well as a world-class entrepreneurship center for budding entrepreneurial students throughout the university, the College of Business is helping to foster well-rounded graduates who are invaluable to the workforce,” said Dean Sharon Oswald.
Gude recognized by national engineering society
A Bagley College of Engineering civil and environmental engineering faculty member received recognition from a national engineering society for his research and teaching endeavors. Mississippi State assistant professor Veera Gnanewswar Gude was awarded the Outstanding New Faculty Researcher Award by the American Society for Engineering Education’s Southeastern Section.
LEAP program now accepting applications
The 2016 Leadership Excellence for Accomplished Professionals (LEAP) program at Mississippi State is now accepting applications. The goal and purpose of LEAP is to empower new supervisors and extremely high performing professional staff with a heightened self-awareness, advanced knowledge, and value-added leadership in a secure, but challenging environment.
