Kyla Wilcher

Kyla Wilcher

Admissions and Recruitment Coordinator
MSU College of Veterinary Medicine
Years at MSU: 4
Time in position: 5 months

More than 1,600 students apply for one of the 112 coveted spots each year in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or DVM program at Mississippi State University. As an admissions and recruitment coordinator at the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine, Kyla Wilcher is one of the first people potential new students meet.

“This job gives me the opportunity to meet and reach so many individuals to help them along their journey toward becoming a veterinarian or pursuing additional career goals,” said Wilcher.

Supporting students doesn’t stop after they’ve been accepted to the MSU CVM. Wilcher’s job also includes focusing on student success, which includes assisting with Bully’s Closet, a professional clothing closet for students, student snack stations, hygiene stations, and program partnerships with on-campus counseling services and student-led organizations.

“I love creating safe spaces and events for our college to interact. My favorite memory so far was hosting one of our dinner socials for first-year DVM students. After, I received an email from a student about how grateful she was for the opportunity. It gave me joy to know I was making an impact and was a reminder to me of why I chose this job and field,” said Wilcher.

Before beginning her current role in November 2023, Wilcher taught, advised and recruited students with the CVM Veterinary Medical Technology department and worked in the CVM Animal Health Center as an emergency/critical care certified veterinary technologist.

“I chose this career because I feel that every student should have an equal opportunity to gain exposure to career fields in STEM that pertain to veterinary medicine. In my role, I am able to reach students of all backgrounds and ages to highlight veterinary medicine.”

In her free time, Wilcher enjoys fishing, crafting and making memories with her family.
