Emergency response training available this fall

Several emergency preparedness sessions are scheduled for the upcoming semester. All sessions will be held at 3 p.m. in the Colvard Student Union’s Fowlkes Auditorium on their corresponding date.

-- Maroon Alert Basics: This Sept. 12 session will detail how Maroon Alerts are sent.

-- Active Shooter Response: This Sept. 26 session will review safety measures to be taken during an active-shooter situation. A question-and-answer session will be held following the training.

-- Fall Severe Weather: This Nov. 7 session will outline how to stay safe during severe weather events.

Visit hrm.msstate.edu/learn-grow/training/upcoming-workshops for a list of upcoming training events and to register for sessions. Space is limited in each session.

Mississippi State's emergency webpage, emergency.msstate.edu, provides emergency response guidance and videos. The site also outlines how and when the university's emergency notification system, Maroon Alert, will be used.

MSU will conduct a Maroon Alert test at noon Friday [Aug. 25]. During an emergency, the homepage will be updated to show the most recent message or any updates that have been released.

Employees should review the university’s emergency response plans, as well as personal preparedness plans, ahead of the start of the fall semester.

Each building on campus should have a Building Emergency Action Plan. This plan outlines how the facility and employees should respond to various emergencies, such as fires, severe weather, active attackers and more. Building managers and operators are responsible for updating and distributing BEAPs. Visit www.buildingmanager.msstate.edu to find a list of building managers and operators, and additional information.
