Mississippi native LeAnn Rimes plays MSU Riley Center this month

LeAnn Rimes, who commands one of the most amazing voices in country music, will come home to Mississippi when she performs at the MSU Riley Center on July 16 at 7:30 p.m. Early-arriving fans can enjoy a pre-show party with free refreshments in the Grand Lobby starting at 6 p.m.

Rimes, a native of Jackson who grew up in Texas, burst into stardom when she was just 13, belting out “Blue” like a reincarnated Patsy Cline. As her career has progressed, she has explored a wide range of musical styles with such hit songs as “One Way Ticket (Because I Can),” “How Do I Live,” “Something’s Gotta Give,” and “Nothin’ Better to Do.” She has also branched out into acting and writing books, and has worked on behalf of several charities.

Rimes has grown to be a poised artist who knows how to command a stage and can deliver sass (“Life Goes On”) and heartbreak (“Probably Wouldn’t Be This Way”) with equal assurance, in any flavor of music.

“I’m really open to anything,” she said. “I think the lines are so blurred in genres these days. I think that’s a good thing for someone like me because I just want to go out and make great music.”

Tickets are $65 and $59 at the MSU Riley Center Box Office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.msurileycenter.com or by calling the box office at 601-696-2200.
