R&B legend Dionne Warwick to open 75th MSU Lyceum Series
Mississippi State’s Lyceum Series will begin its 75th year of shows with a performance by legendary R&B singer Dionne Warwick. The performance, scheduled for Sept. 29, begins a five-show season featuring a variety of acts, from theater and dance troupes to a brass band. Each show will be held at 7 p.m. in Lee Hall’s historic Bettersworth Auditorium. Warwick, a six-time Grammy Award winner and the 2019 recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, is one of the most-charted singers of all time. A Grammy Hall of Fame inductee, three of her songs -- “Walk on By,” “Alfie” and “Don’t Make Me Over” -- were also inducted into the organization’s hall of fame.

Apply today: Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program
Mississippi State has a long association with the Fulbright Scholar Program with over 50 MSU faculty from a variety of disciplines having received Fulbright U.S. Scholar awards since 1954. MSU has also welcomed many international scholars to our campus through the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program. The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program recently opened its 2023-24 competition with over 400 awards in 130 countries featured in the Catalog of Awards, which includes teaching, researching and professional project opportunities. The MSU International Institute welcomes questions from faculty who are interested in applying. Smoke-free policy enhances healthy environment
Mississippi State University is a smoke-free campus. Official policy prohibits the use of any combustible or vapor products anywhere on campus property including university buildings, university grounds, university vehicles, parking areas and sidewalks. The smoke-free campus policy is part of the university's commitment to creating a healthy environment for all members of the campus community. Mississippi State prioritizes emergency preparedness, makes resources available for students and employees
Mississippi State University is taking advance precautions against potential emergency scenarios with several upcoming training sessions planned, including preparation for an active shooter scenario. “We feel preparedness is crucial, and we want to equip our students, faculty and staff to maximize their safety -- even in the event of the worst-case scenarios, which we hope MSU will never face,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Regina Hyatt. MSU Emergency Manager Brent Crocker said the following upcoming training sessions, as well as other preparedness resources, are being implemented in coming weeks as the university continues to make preparedness a top priority.
Etheredge honored for early career, publication excellence by national horticulture organization
Cole Etheredge, an assistant professor in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, was recognized by the American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS). Etheredge received the ASHS Professional Early Career Award, which recognizes ASHS members for outstanding contributions to horticultural science through their professional activities within seven years of completing their degrees. He also received the Education Publication Award, which recognizes the author of the outstanding paper on horticultural education, published in the previous year's issues of The Journal of the American Society for Horticultural Science.
CTL New Faculty Teaching Academy dates set
Want to be more prepared for teaching this year? Join the Mississippi State University Center for Teaching and Learning's New Faculty Teaching Academy, which will be delivered online the three weeks before classes begin. Participants will learn essential strategies for engaging, motivating and communicating with students, as well as the basics of course design and lesson planning. A variety of common teaching challenges will be addressed by experienced MSU faculty members, while online assignments will assist new faculty in preparing for the upcoming semester.
