Ticket sales underway for Lyceum Series season
With the 2012-13 season to begin mid-fall semester, the Mississippi State University Lyceum Series announces the opening of ticket sales for all five, or individually selected, performances. The Capitol Steps, a Washington, D.C.-based musical and political satire troupe of former congressional staffers, will inaugurate the season Oct. 11. The American Shakespeare Center's Feb. 22 presentation of "Twelfth Night" opens the spring events.

The series kicks off Aug. 24, when legendary singer/songwriter Art Garfunkel brings his trademark folk rock sound to the Riley Center stage in downtown Meridian.

Info fair for grad students returns to MSU Libraries
Mississippi State University's graduate students will start the semester off right at MSU Libraries on Aug. 17, and one lucky student will leave with a new iPad. Held on Mitchell Memorial Library’s second and third floors between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., the annual Graduate Student Information Fair will offer students opportunities to visit with various MSU Libraries departments and learn about the multitude of services offered specifically for graduate students.

Men of color summit set for Aug. 31
Mississippi State is announcing a daylong conference late this month designed to identify and address the scholastic needs of male students of color at the university and beyond. Welcoming and opening remarks will be delivered by MSU President Mark E. Keenum; Jerry Gilbert, provost and executive vice president; athletic director Scott Stricklin; and Camille Scales Young, national alumni association president.

University hosting PERS seminar this fall
Human Resources Management at Mississippi State is hosting a PERS pre-retirement, full-day seminar on Oct. 3, 2012, at Bost Extension Center. The seminar offers general information on a range of topics, including estate planning, Mississippi Deferred Compensation Plan and Trust, Social Security benefits, and PERS benefits and options. The seminar is available to any covered PERS member at no cost, but pre-registration is required.

SEC alumni professionals on campus for conference
Mississippi State will host some 80 university alumni association professionals from across the Southeastern Conference attending APSEC 2012 this week. The annual meeting of Alumni Professionals of the Southeastern Conference begins on campus Monday. "Mississippi State is very excited to serve as host institution for this year's APSEC conference," said Jimmy Abraham, associate vice president for development and alumni who serves as executive director of the MSU Alumni Association.
Volunteers helping students move in Saturday
Two new Mississippi State residence halls will open for the first time as the university holds its annual welcome and move-in day for new students. Taking place Aug. 11, the seventh consecutive Movin' You to MSU -- MVNU2MSU in textspeak -- day marks the official opening of all campus residence facilities. "We look forward to rolling out the maroon carpet and welcoming our students and their families to Mississippi State on-campus housing," said Ann Bailey, director of housing and residence life.
Lewis named InfraGard chapter president
The director of Mississippi State University’s Office of Research Security is now serving as a chapter officer for the nation’s leading “collaboration for infrastructure protection.” At a meeting in Jackson last month, InfraGard named Neil Lewis president of its Mississippi chapter. InfraGard is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and businesses, academic institutions, state and local law enforcement, and other agencies dedicated to sharing information and intelligence to prevent hostile acts against the U.S.
